Job-Room Switzerland: The official job database — How to use it correctly
Many job seekers open LinkedIn, Jobs.ch, or Indeed — completely overlooking the most important Swiss job database. Job-Room is official, state-run, and has a decisive advantage: jobs appear there that you won't see anywhere else first.
Employers in Switzerland are legally required to report certain job openings first in Job-Room before they can be publicly advertised. Those who know Job-Room have a head start of up to 5 days.
What is Job-Room?
The Job-Room (job-room.ch) is the official online platform of the Swiss public employment service, operated by SECO as part of arbeit.swiss. It has two main functions:
1. Job search for job seekers
- Search open positions across all of Switzerland
- Create a candidate profile that employers can find
- Submit documents electronically (eServices)
2. Job reporting for employers
- Employers report job vacancies via Job-Room
- Access to the RAV candidate database
- Use of short-time work eServices
The job reporting obligation: Your hidden advantage
Since 2018, the job reporting obligation (Art. 21a AVIG) has been in effect in Switzerland. Employers must report open positions in occupations with above-average unemployment exclusively and first to the RAV / Job-Room.
These positions are then visible for 5 working days exclusively to job seekers registered with the RAV — before they may be published on other platforms.
What this means for you:
- As someone registered with the RAV, you see these jobs earlier than everyone else
- The pool of applicants is initially smaller — better chances
- Otherwise, these jobs often do not appear on LinkedIn or Jobs.ch at all
For many industries, Job-Room is the only platform where you can find jobs that were legally required to be reported. Even experienced job seekers underestimate this.
What Job-Room can do — and what it can't
Strengths of Job-Room
✅ Complete official job listings
✅ Jobs subject to the reporting obligation (exclusive to RAV-registered job seekers)
✅ Candidate profile for employer searches
✅ Electronic eServices (PAB submission, ASAL 2.0)
✅ Free for job seekers
Limitations of Job-Room
❌ No AI assistance for writing applications
❌ No automatic tracking of your applications
❌ No export tool for RAV proof of job search efforts
❌ No modern CV building tool
❌ No mobile-optimized experience
This is not a criticism — Job-Room is a state platform with a state mandate. For application management, documentation, and creating application dossiers, there are better tools available.
How to set up your Job-Room profile
- Go to job-room.ch/login and register as a job seeker
- Create a complete candidate profile with a photo, qualifications, and preferred region
- Activate email notifications for new matching jobs
- Submit all PAB forms and documents directly via eServices
Important: Coordinate your Job-Room profile with your RAV advisor. Some cantons expect you to communicate actively via Job-Room.
