A weekly plan can help you see your next tasks. You do not need a calendar filled without gaps or the same routine every day. What matters is that the plan fits your appointments, available time and upcoming applications.
The steps below are optional organisation tips. They do not replace your individual arrangements with the RAV. Application deadlines, agreed appointments and specific instructions take priority over this example.
1. Enter fixed commitments first
Note interviews, submission deadlines and other commitments. Include part-time work, caring responsibilities and travel time. Then mark the time slots you want to use for your job search. Leave a buffer instead of filling every spare minute.
2. Collect suitable vacancies and note the next step
Set aside a research block. For an interesting vacancy, record the employer, role, deadline and any missing documents. Then decide what needs doing next. If a deadline is close, work on the application straight away: you do not need to wait for a particular weekday.
3. Plan focused application blocks
If useful, separate vacancy research from writing. For each application, check which requirements you can support with your actual experience. Adapt your documents to the role and review them before sending. Do not take a fixed application quota from a blog post; follow your individual agreement with the RAV.
4. Make room for contacts and learning
You can use another block for a conversation with a contact, interview preparation or a relevant learning task. Choose a concrete next step rather than simply writing “networking” in your calendar. These activities do not automatically count as recognised job-search efforts; clarify any questions with your RAV.
5. Update your records and adjust the plan
Record sent applications, replies and upcoming appointments promptly. At the end of the week, check what is finished and what needs moving. Include time off. If a block regularly fails to fit your everyday life, change the plan.
An example you can adapt
| Time slot | Task | Visible result |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | Check appointments and research vacancies | A list of deadlines and next steps |
| Tuesday | Work on an upcoming application | Reviewed documents or an outstanding question |
| Wednesday | Speak with a contact or prepare for an interview | Notes and a next step |
| Thursday | Work on applications and check replies | Updated progress records |
| Friday | Check records and plan the following week | Your own complete overview of the steps recorded |
This table sets neither a required number of applications nor fixed working hours. Swap days, shorten blocks or arrange them differently. An approaching deadline takes priority.
Your quick weekly check
- Which deadline comes next?
- What specific step fits my next available time slot?
- What do I still need to record or clarify with the RAV?
According to SECO: rights and obligations during unemployment (German), the number of applications is agreed individually with the RAV. A weekly plan and a personal list replace neither that agreement nor the required evidence. Follow the submission methods and deadlines that apply to you.
