AI for job interviews: practise, check, stay authentic

Use AI as a practice tool for a job interview without replacing your own experience or voice.

Reading format

AI can help you practise. It does not replace your own preparation or honest answers about your experience.

Prepare the basics first

Before using a tool, research the employer and the job description. Prepare examples from your own experience and questions you want to ask. Swiss public careers guidance recommends exactly this preparation for an interview. Gather three concrete examples from your experience: a task, a collaboration and a situation you learned from.

Use AI as a practice partner

You can ask a tool to turn the job description into practice questions. Answer them yourself first, then use the output as a checklist: Is the answer clear? Does it contain a real example? Does it fit the role? This helps you practise structure without memorising a foreign script.

Stay honest and protect data

Do not paste confidential documents, credentials or information about other people into an external tool. Check every wording for accuracy and do not adopt a claim you could not explain in the interview. AI may help organise; your experience and judgement remain central.

Practise without the tool afterwards

Talk through your answers with someone you trust or record yourself. Note where you would like to be more specific. Your own questions for the employer also show interest and help you assess whether the role is right for you.

Check a practice answer

Say one answer aloud, then ask yourself:

  1. Is every statement about my experience true?
  2. Do I give a concrete example from my own experience?
  3. Does it answer the question I was asked?

Choose one point to improve and say the answer again in your own words. You do not need an external tool for this.
