The uncertainty following job loss or termination is high — especially in financial terms. How much money will I receive monthly from the unemployment insurance fund (ALV)? What is my financial runway (financial buffer)? With the new PARAT RAV calculator, you can find out your exact daily allowance in under 60 seconds.
"How much will I get from the RAV?" is the first question after losing a job. Our free calculator provides immediate clarity for your budget plan.
Why the ALV Daily Allowance Calculation Is Often Confusing
The Swiss Unemployment Insurance Act (AVIG) protects employees in the event of job loss. However, the formula for calculating the monthly daily allowance payout is complex:
- Insured salary: The starting point is your average gross salary over the last 6 to 12 months (maximum 12,350 CHF per month or 148,200 CHF per year).
- 70% vs. 80% compensation entitlement:
- 80% of the insured salary if you have maintenance obligations toward children, if your insured salary is under 3,797 CHF, or in case of disability.
- 70% of the insured salary in all other cases.
- Working days instead of calendar days: The ALV pays per working day (an average of 21.7 days per month). A month therefore has between 20 and 23 daily allowances depending on the calendar.
- Social security deductions: Contributions for AHV/IV/EO, NBU (non-occupational accident), and the pension fund (BVG) are also deducted from RAV daily allowances.

What the RAV Calculator Shows You Instantly:
- Daily rate (daily allowance per working day): Your gross daily rate based on your insured salary.
- Monthly rate (gross): The average gross payout for a full month (21.7 daily allowances).
- Child and education allowances: Statutory supplements calculated directly.
- Estimated net payout: Including an estimate of statutory social security deductions.
How Many Daily Allowances Are You Entitled to in Total?
In addition to the daily rate amount, your total entitlement depends on your contribution months within the 2-year framework period:
| Contribution months (last 2 years) | Requirements | Maximum daily allowances | |---|---|---| | 12 – 24 months | Under 25 years old without maintenance obligations | 200 daily allowances (approx. 9 months) | | 12 – 17 months | Aged 25 or older or with maintenance obligations | 260 daily allowances (approx. 12 months) | | 18 – 24 months | Aged 25 or older or with maintenance obligations | 400 daily allowances (approx. 18 months) | | 22 – 24 months | Aged 55 or older or receiving an IV pension | 520 daily allowances (approx. 24 months) |
