The RAV control period is a constant companion for many job seekers in Switzerland, often associated with stress and uncertainty. However, if you know what matters and which deadlines apply, you can complete the monthly proof of your job search efforts calmly and without errors. In this article, we explain exactly what the control period means and how you can avoid sanctions.

What is the RAV control period?

The control period at the Regional Employment Centre (RAV) usually corresponds exactly to one calendar month. It begins on the first day of the month and ends on the last day. During this period, you must actively make efforts to find new employment and document these efforts in detail. This duty is called proof of personal job search efforts (PAB).

Important deadlines you need to know

The most important rule right off the bat: Your collected proof must reach your RAV no later than the 5th day of the following month. If the 5th falls on a weekend or a public holiday, the deadline is the first working day thereafter.

If you miss this deadline, you risk suspension days, during which your daily allowance will be cancelled. It is therefore worth organizing your documents early.

Quality vs. Quantity: How many job applications are required?

There is no legally fixed number of applications that applies to everyone. Your RAV advisor will determine the exact number (usually between 8 and 12 per month) individually with you. However, the following points are important:

  1. Quality over quantity: Pointless speculative applications sent just to meet the quota are looked down upon by the RAV and can even be penalized.
  2. Distribution: Do not send all your applications on the last day of the control period. The RAV expects a continuous job search spread throughout the whole month.
  3. Documentation: Keep all documents (cover letters, rejections, email exchanges) safely stored in case the RAV requests random checks.

How PARAT helps you with documentation

Collecting and preparing proof can be tedious. With the RAV proof tool from PARAT, this process becomes child's play. You can log each application immediately after sending it. At the end of the control period, the system automatically generates a ready, RAV-compliant form as well as a clear ZIP archive with all enclosures. That way, you will never miss a deadline again.

Conclusion: Well organized is half the battle

The RAV control period doesn't have to be a cause for panic. With good organization, compliance with the deadline (5th of the following month), and the right tools, the monthly proof quickly becomes a routine task. Spend the time you save preparing for your next job interview instead!
